Ilias Chatzigeorgiou
(Choreographer/Dancer/Performer/Independed Dance Curator)
Born and Based in Athens Greece,
he started dancing as a self-taught hip hop dancer in the age of ten and has been a professional dancer and dance teacher for the last 20 years. Ilias has studied Philosophy , Psychology and Pedagogy and is a certified coach. He has collaborated with artists of various disciplines(dance,theater,cinema,photography) in Greece and abroad .Ilias performed for numerous artists such as Patricia Apregi(Aerites Dance Company member since 2009) -Christos Papadopoulos- Ioanna Portolou (Griffon Dance Company)-Katerina Evangelatos-Jerome Bell- Angela Brouskou and many more.Ilias also has been teaching dance in dance schools and institutions , on amateur and professional level. He has been teaching dance at the Special Youth Detention Center of Avlona in collaboration with the Greek National Opera.

He served the position of the Dance Curator for the Athens Epidaurus Festival(2019-2022) . Ilias is the initiator and artistic director of the Athens Epidaurus Festival Urban Dance Contest -“Layers Of Street” that is now on preparation of it’s 5th year . As a choreographer , Ilias has presented five dance works(Fixation In Duo,A Bounce 4 Men, The Big Cypher, The Olympic Cypher and Scared) in major festivals and organizations .His latest choreographic works the “Olympic Cypher” produced by Flux laboratory and the French Institute of Greece was dedicated to the entry of breaking to the 2024 Olympic Games and followed the route of the olympic flame all over Greece until its hand over to France and the second ,“Scared” (a kinetic allegory about fear, a humorus dystopia) was produced and presented (July2024) by the Athens Epidaurus Festival. His latest cinema appearance was on “Animal” by Sofia Exarchou, a multi awarded movie for 2024. In 2023 Ilias initiated the “Dancing Chestnut Festival” in his village of origin, on Taygetus mountain, Peloponnese ,where he presented three solo works by different artists in distinctive places of the village adding something new to the former meaning and history of each space.In 2024 ilias was awarded by the Aerowaves Startup Forum for his curatorial proposal and initiated the 3 days in duration ” Dancing Cells Dance Festival “ inside Korydalllos detention center, the largest and most overpopulated prison in Greece ,where dance shows and workshops were presented by greek and foreign artists to an audience of more than 500 inmates.
